January 21, 1960

A break-in occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at Kopischkes’ Mobile Gas Station. The two thieves netted nothing thanks to Fulda Police Officer Emil Sell who spotted the thieves while making his rounds. While the thieves escaped they left behind quite a mess of broken glass in the font door, spilled cigarettes and liquor.

The “Old” Goat is ours – the Fulda Raiders defeated Slayton on Friday night, 58-47!

The Fulda Symphonic Band is happy to present their mid-winter musical on January 26th  under the direction of Mr. Philip Norrdin. Solos will be played by Marlys Bruns, Elaine Evers and Diane Dierks.

The 39th Annual Convention of Minnesota School Board Association was held in St. Paul on January 11-12-13. Attending from Fulda were Fred Behr, Ray Crowley, and Harold Brandt and Superintendent Alex Fisher.

Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Mischke are the parents of a daughter, born Thursday in Westbrook, MN.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tolzin announce the engagement of their daughter, Jeanette, to Douglas Beckman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Beckman.

Mr. and Mrs. William Crowley to observe their Golden Wedding Anniversary with an open house January 24th.

Rites for Peter Sturm, who passed away in Colorado, were held here on Friday. Mr. Sturm, 80, passed away on January 16th after a bout with bronchial pneumonia.

Mrs. Fred (Mathilda) West passed away January 18th following surgery at the age of 83 years old.

Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Pfingsten were held on January 15th at the Reusse Funeral Home.

Food for thought: Fathers and Mothers very often punish children who behave exactly like father and mother.

Jerry and Cleone Ramerth share their story of ‘Building a Business From the Ground Up…Or the Air Down!’

Fulda received Star City status this past week as Harry Rosefeldt, Minnesota Star City Program, presented a plaque to Mary Ann Boom who was instrumental in the progress of the program. Also attending the celebration were Mr. Speer, Department of Trade and Economics, Senator Jim Vickerman and Representative Ted Winter.

Representative Ted Winter to hold town meetings with hopes to gather input on the 1990 legislative session to begin February 12th.

Featured in Fulda High School Senior Profiles this week are Roger Koopman, Todd Kirchner and Robin Olesen.

Lester W. Miller passed away on December 23rd a the age of 79 years old.

Verner Bachman passed away at the age of 57 years old.

Mervin Lund passed away January 8th at the age of 57 years old.

Citizens of Tomorrow feature Dallas and Stephanie Koopman, Ashley and Shannon Fischer, and Ryan and Paul Knorr.

Governor Ventura makes a stop in Fulda during his whirlwind tour of Telecommunications history in Southwestern Minnesota this week. Area residents turned out to shake his hand (or get a hug), as well as hear from the Fulda High School Band and Choir. Governor Jesse Ventura took the time to put his signature on one of the Fulda Raider drums as a souvenir. The Governor’s visit made Fulda famous – even if only for a day.

Shirley Buschena was honored at the Minnesota School Boards Association Leadership Conference 2000 with the President’s Award for consecutive terms in office.

The Friends of the Library are raffling off a quilt in hopes to raise funds for the Library renovations.

Ernie Davis is honored as Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Darwin and Terese Kruse are proud to announce the adoption of their daughter, Cheyenne Rose.

Shawn and Emily Thompson are proud to announce the birth of Ellie born December 29th. Grandparents are Duane and Carol Laubach and Marilyn Thompson.

Anna Gundermann passed away at the age of 100 years old on January 4, 2000.

Students at the Fulda Elementary School celebrated the Vikings making the playoffs by wearing their favorite Viking attire and making headbands.
