Chargers rally past Coyotes in OT, 79-77

Trailing 65-56 with two minutes remaining in regulation, the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers rallied to tie the score and then prevailed in overtime with a thrilling 79-77 victory over the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes in a Red Rock Conference high school boys’ basketball game last Tuesday night (February 18) at Okabena.

HL-O/F led the entire game until W-WG tied the score (at 68-68) on an offensive-rebound basket with 19 seconds left in the second half. The Chargers outscored the Coyotes 11-9 in overtime — after winning the second half 42-31 — to escape with a two-point win.

“We played outstanding, leading the entire game and never trailing until overtime,” Coyotes head coach Colby Pack said. “We didn’t finish the game the way we would have liked to, but give W-WG credit for making plays and coming back like they did. It was an exciting high school basketball game.”
