Pvt. Bruce E. Giefer, Avoca, is stationed is taking part in Operation Hastings with the Third Battalion, Fourth Marine Regiment, Third Marine Division, Viet Nam.

Frank Talus, husband of Jesse Freeland, passed away on September 2nd very suddenly. He was a lawyer in Chisholm for over 50 years.
Mrs. Paul Bergman, 43, passed away August 9th. Mrs. Bergman was hospitalized at the Murray County Memorial Hospital with a broken ankle and died there unexpectedly on Saturday.
A bridal shower was held for Darlene Haseman at St. Paul’s Lutheran School on Wednesday evening. Miss Haseman is the bride-to-be of Gerald Dick.
A bridal shower was held at the Arvin Dierks home last Thursday for Renee Lundeen.
Roland Gertjejansen received his Ph. D. in Forest Products Engineering from the University of Minnesota.
In the opening football game of the season, the Fulda Raiders were downed by Slayton with a score of 40-7.
Mr. and Mrs. Everett Coleman are the parents of a daughter, Diane born on September 6.
The noon day special at Lanoue’s Recreation is a $1.00 smorgasbord.
Showing at the Fulda Theatre this weekend is “Frankie and Johnny” – in color.

Fulda hosts Southwest Minnesota TOPS Fall Rally on Saturday. Karen Geihl of Cottonwood, Minnesota was crowned queen.
New teachers at the Fulda High school include Stephen Redmond who will be teaching Special Ed and Trent Pearson who will be the art teacher.
The Garden and Pantry Truck will make a pick up at the First Presbyterian Church in Fulda on Tuesday, September 16th. Anything you can give will be appreciated by the needy in Minnesota.
The Fulda Area Lakes Preservation Organization hauled 44 truck loads of rock away from the old railroad property near Rich’s Clover Farm on Saturday. The rock will be stockpiled until it can be used to rip rap the shoreline of 7 Mile Lake this winter.
The Fulda Area Credit Union Board of Directors and President Brian Frisvold are pleased to announce the Grand Opening date set for Monday the 15th.
The Fulda City Council discussed county tile No. 4 at a recent meeting. Rerouting the 450’ tile will cost approximately $8,000. The county said the city is liable because it allowed houses to be built over the cement tile installed in 1909.
Connie and John Pederson are proud to announce the birth of a daughter, Heather, on September 4th. Grandparents are Don and Dorothy Funk and John and Arleen Pederson.
Jim and Wendy Buschena are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Alyson on September 2nd. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Roland Buschena and Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Lorenzen.
Janet Heger and Dan Silberman were married July 19th at the Worthington Country Club with the Rev. Larry Brixius officiating.
Margaret Smith and Steve Salentiny were united in marriage at First Lutheran church in Worthington on August 9th.
Barbara Gieselman and Todd Paplow were united in marriage on August 23rd at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Slayton.
Marcella Fury received her twenty year pin from Lisa Abickt, Maple Lawn Nursing Home Administrator, for serving the facility from August 24, 1966 to August 24, 1986.
Robert E. Lee passed away after being struck by a semi-tractor trailer while working on Interstate 5 in California on August 20th. Mr. Lee was 24 years old at the time of his death.
Violet Klasse passed away on September 3rd at the age of 80 years old.

Benefit to be held for Greg Otkin, hurt in a car accident on April 14, 1995, to help with medical expenses.
A monument which will pay tribute to our nation’s veterans is under construction near the city hall entrance. The stately granite monument will stand four feet high and three feet wide and will read: “In honor and memory of all men and women who served in the armed forces of the United States of America”. The monument is sponsored by the Gerald Bodelson VFW Post No. 9017 and Auxiliary.
Airman Sterling Holmes has been honored by the Department of the Air Force on three separate occasions during his tour of duty. He has been awarded; the Air Force Achievement Medal on October 7, 1993; a Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding achievement of weapons safety on April 23, 1996; and the Air Force Achievement Medal – First Oak Leaf Cluster on August 13, 1996.
Judith Dorschner and Patrick Peddycoart were married by Justice of the Peace Nancy Vanderkooi on August 3rd at the Dundee City Park.
Margaret Hannah Wisdorf passed away on September 5th at the age of 91 years old.

The Fulda Raiders could not quite overcome the bruising ground game of Red Rock Central as they dropped a 27-21 thriller to the Falcons in the conference opener at Alex Fisher field on Friday.
