Bernice Helen Kirchner, the daughter of Wenzel and Barbara (Zangel) Sellner, was born on October 5, 1928 in Sleepy Eye, MN. She grew up in Sleepy Eye and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, graduating in 1946. Bernice was united in marriage to Lawrence Kirchner on November 22, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After their marriage they lived on a farm northeast of Fulda, MN, where they lived for 53 years. In 1987 they retired from farming and remained on the farm. In September of 2000 they moved to the Peterson Estates in Westbrook, MN. Bernice remained in their home after Lawrence passed away in June of 2002. In June of 2018 she entered the Westbrook Good Samaritan Center. Bernice passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at the Westbrook Good Samaritan Center at the age of 91. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Westbrook and a former member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda. She was a member of the FCCW and served as secretary and a group leader. Bernice also belonged to the Avoca Senior Citizens and Neighborhood Club. She enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves. Bernice also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, bingo, sewing, embroidery, gardening, including canning dill and chunk pickles but most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her 3 children, Lawrence (Carolyn) Kirchner of Westbrook, MN, Douglas (Bonnie) Kirchner of Walnut Grove, MN and Lorene (Joel) DeBoer of Harrisburg, SD; 7 grandchildren, Stuart Kirchner, Ryan Kirchner, Jason Kirchner, Christine Zettles, Jacob DeBoer, Jessica DeBoer and Jamie DeBoer; 7 great-grandchildren, Haylee and Elsie Kirchner, Alexandra Kirchner, Aubree Kirchner, Natalie and Ella Zettles and Kaylee DeBoer; 2 sisters, Patricia (Edward) Soukup of Sleepy Eye, MN and Barbara (William) Mielke of Brookings, SD and sister-in-law, Mary Sellner of Rosemount, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Alex and Floyd Sellner and sister, Marcella Suess.
Funeral Services, A private family interment will be at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Cemetery Fulda, MN.
