All operations of Fulda Gerald Bodelson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9017 were suspended on May 1, 2020, per order of VFW Minnesota State Commander, Chad Solheid.
A first notice of a forced consolidation of Fulda VFW Post #9017 and Iona VFW Post #9680 into Wilmont VFW Post #2603 was sent to the commanders of the three Posts by the Department of Minnesota VFW on March 26, 2020.
The letter stated that the Minnesota State VFW Department Officers are aware of the ongoing difficulty that both the Fulda Post and the Iona Post have been having with participation in Post activities.
“Although this consolidation would be considered ‘forced’, it is honestly intended to relieve the struggles of the failing Posts and to ultimately strengthen the newly consolidated group so that all members may continue to pursue the mission and directives of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,” the letter from VFW State Adjutant Kenneth Schroepfer stated.
The consolidation will keep members of the failing Posts from defaulting to at-large membership, which will help to prevent non-renewal of annual memberships when they are due.
