Richard Paul Brunk, the son of Paul and Ruth (Brower) Brunk, was born on July 14, 1944 in Sheldon, IA. He grew up in Boyden, IA until he was 7, when his family moved to a farm outside of Fulda, MN. He attended school in Fulda and graduated from the Fulda High School. Rich was united in marriage to Kathryn Olson on October 4, 1964 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda. After their marriage they lived on a farm east of Fulda for many years before moving to Dundee, MN where they lived for 27 years. He has spent the last 4 winters in Mesa, AZ. Rich passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at his home in Dundee at the age of 72. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda, where he served as Usher, Stewardship, on the Board of Education, Evangelism, a Elder, Couples Club, PTL, and helped with the youth softball league as their coach. He enjoyed playing and coaching softball, camping, working with Belgian Horses with his dad, playing cards, having coffee with his friends in AZ and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his children, Lori West of Dundee, MN, David (Liz) Brunk of Okabena, MN and Darren (Phyllis) Brunk of Worthington, MN; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Linda Nelson of Bradenton, FL and Betty (Mike) Hugunin of Des Moines, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law, Mitch West, sister, Connie Knorr and brothers-in-law, Gus Knorr and Gaylord Nelson.
Funeral Services at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 with Rev. Shawn Ethridge officiating. The organist is Loretta Gehl. Special music provided by Larry Den Hartog, Vern and LeAnn Wenzel, Pam Beckman and Joanne Jorgensen. The pallbearers are Todd Knorr and Tonya Knorr. The honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren. Interment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery rural Avoca, MN.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 6 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements. Send condolences online at www.totzkefuneralhome.com.
