Don’t Wait – Check the Date! was the theme of this year’s National Fire Prevention Week. Using that to educate students about smoke alarms, Fulda Fire Chief David Baumhoefner explained that each smoke alarm is dated on its back side. “Have your parents check the back side of the smoke alarms. The date is there. If the smoke alarm is ten years old, please make sure that the alarms are replaced,” Chief Baumhoefner instructed the students. “The batteries in your smoke alarms need to be changed twice a year, also. Do you remember when they should be changed? That’s right. It is a reminder to change out the batteries when we put our clocks back one hour in the fall and when we spring our clocks ahead one hour in the spring.”
