Local Students Celebrate White Cane Day

October is Blindness Awareness month and two area students, Briana Wildfeuer from Fulda Elementary and Cloey Wingert from Walnut Grove Elementary, celebrated by attending the White Cane Day event at the MN State Academy for the Blind in Faribault.  The trip was a cooperative effort between the Southwest West Centralfeature-briana-cloey Service Coop and both schools.  The students were accompanied by paras, a Special Education teacher, a parent and a teacher for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

The Westbrook/Walnut Grove School District provided transportation as the van pulled away from the Westbrook High School parking lot at 6:00 AM on Wednesday morning, October 12.  It was loaded with the 2 students and 4 adult women for a “Girl’s Day Out”.   The 3 hour trip was filled with talk and laughter and before long arrived at the MN State Academy for the Blind in Faribault, MN.  Justin Wildfeuer, Briana’s Dad, was a surprise addition to the day as he drove over separately to spend the day with his daughter.
