Joshua Joe Staples was born on January 19, 1978 in Slayton, Minnesota to Joe B. and Robyn Thraen Staples. Josh grew up in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1996. Following high school Josh worked at True Value Hardware in Marshall and later for McCormick Construction as a crane operator. On May 28, 2005 he and Alicia Loosbrock were married at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton. Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton and Josh worked for Murray County Land Improvement. He and Alicia later divorced. In 2008 Josh went to work for Gravely Trucking in Russell, MN and later for David Brown in Slayton. In 2009 he and Toni O’Leary made their home in Slayton and in 2011 they moved to Iona, MN. Josh was currently working for Gass Trenching in Fulda. Josh passed away on December 7, 2016 at the Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone as the result of an automobile accident at the age of 38. He was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN. Josh enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing cards, riding motorcycle, shooting pool, snowmobiling, and playing softball. He will be missed greatly by his father, as he was Joe B.’s best friend.
Survivors include his girlfriend, Toni O’Leary of Iona, MN, five children, Kaleb Staples of Champlin, MN, Alanah O’Leary, Thomas Pruitt, Jersey Staples, and Oliver Staples all at home; his father, Joe B. Staples, his mother, Robyn Lubben both of Slayton, MN, one sister, Michelle Sanow of Lake Benton, MN; three nieces, Samatha Hook of Russell, MN, Courtney Johnson of Fulda, MN and Miranda Sanow of Watertown, SD; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Richard and Marilyn Staples, and his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Beverly Thraen.
Memorial Services at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating. The organist is Sharon Lais. The song leader is Sheila Crowley. The honorary pallbearers are Austin Onken, David Brown, Doug Rehnelt, Heath Atwood, Greg Gillette, Ryan Veldhuisen, Justin Wildfeuer, Garrett Opdahl and Clint Magnus. Interment will be private. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.
