This past Saturday was the second round of the Section 3A South boys basketball tournament also known as ‘Super Saturday’. Eight teams took to the floor in Worthington with hopes on moving on to the semi final round.
Fulda, the number 5 seed, faced off with Southwest MN Christian, the fourth seed, in the second game of the day.
The Raiders ended their regular season with the Eagles the previous Monday night and looked for revenge on their 78-56 loss. Saturday’s game was anybody’s ball game up until the last five minutes of the game. Southwest Christian reeled off 11 straight points to put the game out of reach and claim the 81-66 victory.
As the game began, it looked like it was going to be a repeat of the previous game as SWC put 11 quick points on the board. Coach Colby Pack called a full time out to get his team together and hopefully recover from the onslaught of points.
Brandon Everett found Dalton Slinger who got an open in look in the corner and nailed a three to open up the scoring for the Raiders. Justin Dierks added another two as he found a free lane to the hoop for a layout. Freshman, Jacob Van Dam (SWC) put up two points. Over the next couple of minutes it was a scramble to see who controlled the ball. In the end SWC’s Kyle Van’t Hof was called for over the back sending Fulda’s Jarred Jans to the line connecting on the front half of a 1 and 1.
