The long awaited month is here, I’m not talking tax filings but rather Spring in all its pent up glory. The ants are up, trees are budding, birds are back and the tulips will soon bloom. There are several weeks with no mosquitoes and limited other bugs which makes sitting outside a total joy. Last Saturday with its sunny warmth and no wind was a gift and it was well received. It was a day when you had all kinds of stuff to do and so little time. Grilling outside was fun again without dashing back into the house to stay warm.
My dog Tara is seventeen and somewhat active. She has a growing problem with eye site and hearing (sound familiar). There is a tendency to be a little unsteady on her feet at times but she has her occasional burst of speed. I understand the process. The dog has progressed to hand signals if she is within a hundred feet. She has developed her own signals that I’m getting better at understanding. If you ask her if she wants to go outside or if she is hungry she wiggles her tail for yes and a tail held still is no. That old come, sit and stay have always been understood but obeyed only if it suited her. As we age together, things become clearer for both of us. She’s adapting faster than I have been. I will try harder.
