On April 30th, Marie Ommen will mark her 100th birthday. She is residing at Maple Lawn Nursing Home and will celebrate her birthday with a family, by invitation only, party which will be held at Maple Lawn Senior Care Center on the day of her birthday.
Marie Catherine Koopman was one of ten children born to John and Eliese Koopman of Fulda, Minnesota. Marie remembers being told that “you were so little, you were put in a shoe box and set on the door of the oven to help keep you warm.” “It was Aunt Annie (Schroeder) who kept me alive,” Ommen stated.
In 1919, the Koopman family moved out of Fulda to the Elm Grove Farm by Lime Creek. They farmed there until 1932 when they moved to a farm two miles southwest of Avoca.
