Thursday, May 11, 1967

Murray County Commissioners make statement concerning the twice-voted down submission for plans for a new court house by the people. Although the plan was rejected, the board feels the need for a new facility is evident. As a result, county is obligated to accept the mandate of the people and try to get along in the present out-date facility.

Summer Festival plans have tentatively been set for July 22nd this year. This year the event will be held on Saturday instead of Sunday.

Father Cletus Hodapp passed away April 18th at the age of 66 in Accra, Ghana.  He was the brother of St. Gabriel’s Church former Rev. Fr. Hodapp.

Mrs. Cecil Lyons passed away on Saturday after a lingering illness. Mrs. Lyons was the former Gertude Klute of Fulda.

John W. Breimer rites held May 8th. Mr. Breimer passed away on Friday at the age of 81 years old.

Diane Polzin is engaged to Charles Breit. A June wedding is planned.

Colleen McDonald is engaged to Doyle Gertjejansen. No definite wedding date has been set.

Bouquets of lighted candelabra at the altar of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom was the setting for the marriage of Donna Thom and Darrell Bruns on Saturday, April 29th.

The Fulda High School held it’s first local novice speech contest Tuesday, May 2nd. A unique feature of this contest was that entries were limited exclusively to those who had never been involved in an organized speech activity before. First place trophy went to Sharon McCormick on an informative speech on L.S.D. Second place went to Duane Pierce with a dialogue involving the humorous relationship of two brothers. Other participants include Judy Norton, Kathy Salentiny, Jerry Van Oort, Wayne Hulstein, Marshall Isder, Pat Clark and Helen Anderson.

Jack Andrews – Fulda’s Turkey King is full of valuable information on raising turkeys which he is sharing with the Fulda Independent Coop’s Turkey project.

Old Time Fiddlers will appear at the Fulda Wood Duck Festival on Saturday.

Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home is Gabrielle Heer.

The Pabst Beer Wagon will appear in the Wood Duck Festival Parade this year.

Brenda Larson and Richard Kuhle announce their engagement. The couple is planning a July wedding.

Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Janssen celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary on May 8.

Mark and Mary Hartlep are proud to announce the arriaval of their daughter, Miranda born May 2nd. Grandparents are Doug and Gwen Hartlep and Mary Altman.

Julie Kramer won the mile run at the Trojan Relays last week with a time of 5:39.2 while Troy Wehking won the pole vault with a leap of 11’6”.

Frank Freetly passed away May 1st at the age of 86 years old.

Fulda City Council discusses Sunday liquor for 3.2 beer. Sunday liquor will require a petition to the City signed by 30% of the total voters in the last election or 200 which ever is less.

Fulda police plan activities for National Police Week May 11-18 including Safe and Sober hog roast, Operation Kid Safe, and Child Safety Seatbelt Day.

The sixth graders in the Fulda Elementary School have been working with two female albino rats, Casper and Sugar, taking their weight and measurements and checking their feeding schedule each week.

Fulda 9th graders attend Respect Retreat.

Fulda High School Senior Profiles feature Sara Kremer and Michael Bertrand.

Maple Lawn Nursing Home to participate in a unique statewide “Day in the Life of Long-Term Care” photography project to depict the positive relationships between caregivers and residents.

Ethel LaPlante passed away at the age of 88 years old on May 2nd.
