Editor’s Note: As the theme for this year’s Fulda Festival is 40 Years of Thunder and recognizes the 40th anniversary of the formation of the Iron Horse Motorcycle Club, there has been curiousity about the history of the club expressed by our readers. The following was printed in Celebrating 125 Years – a history book about Fulda’s 125 year history that was printed in 2006.
“Ironhorse Motorcycle Club was originally started in 1977. The club was formed by a local group who all enjoyed biking. At the time, Fulda still had a Harley Davidson dealership, and there were many people, approximately 40 or so, who got together to ride each Sunday, most of them from right around the Fulda area. The group had no name, and would ride to other area bike club events. Each time, showing up in the numbers they did, they were asked what their club’s name was. Arriving back in Fulda from one of these rides, they gathered at the original Corral Supper Club, owned at that time by Keith (Beaver) Evers, himself an avid biker. This was the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, 1977. The group that night discussed how often they were asked what their club’s name was. Throughout the evening, after much discussion, and many suggestions, they came up with M. D. Iron Horse Riders. The M. D. stood for Muscular Dystrophy. The group had decided that their group should be one with a purpose greater than just the love of riding bike. They were made up of many business people in the community and wanted to form a group with a positive image regarding motorcycle clubs, which in the 1970’s, was going against the norm. They decided that they wanted to ride for charity.
