Fulda Electric Service to close Fulda location

Fulda Electric Service, Inc., owner Brian Welling, has announced that the Fulda location of the business will close as of June 1, 2017.

Fulda Electric Service, Inc., was started by Brian’s father, Don Welling, in 1971. He opened the business on March 16th that year and worked from the Amborn Plumbing Shop. Don had begun the business by securing a loan for $12,500 through the Fulda Development Corporation. Don and his wife, Delores, built a new home in Fulda and for a time, the business was conducted out of their garage. They then purchased five acres of land from  the Fulda Development Corporation and built the Fulda Electric Service, Inc. building on the east side of  U. S. Highway 59.

Don provided electrical service mainly for farmers and residential customers. By 1976, the company was doing more commercial work and had seven employees, who worked on schools and other public and private commercial businesses. Some of the school projects that Fulda Electrical Service, Inc., worked on were Marshall, Jackson, Luverne, as well as schools in southeast South Dakota.
