A big box arrived at Fulda Elementary School on Wednesday morning. In the box was the newly published hardcover book written and illustrated by the fourth grade students in Leah Baumann’s classroom.
Mrs. Baumann explained that each time the class had read a book during the 2016-2017 school year, they had discussed the author and illustrator of that book. “Then we had the author and illustrator who came to the school and visited with the students about what it takes to publish a book. As a class we decided to see what we could do to have a book published,” she explained.
The students took turns talking about the work that was necessary for their published book, which is entitled 4th Grade Animal Stories.
Everly Henning said that their first assignment was to choose the animals that they each were going to write about. After thinking of different ideas for their story lines, they wrote their rough drafts. “We had to use our grammar and language skills,” Jackson Kramer said.
