Adrian tops Fulda in Legion ball last Friday

Adrian came out swinging hot bats and took down the Fulda Legion baseball team 10-0 in 5 innings Friday night in front of a nice home crowd. Adrian scored 6 runs in the first, 1 in the third, and added 3 in the fourth to secure the win. Brady Kremer took the loss for Fulda, (0-1) pitching 3 2/3 innings, giving up 10 runs (7 earned) on 11 hits, walking 3 and striking out 4. Zach Hendel was the winning pitcher for Adrian, going 3 innings, giving up 0 runs on 4 Fulda hits, hitting one batter and striking out 3.

Things started very well for Adrian. After a leadoff walk and a strikeout, the next 7 batters of the inning reached via the hit and one Fulda error. Many hits found the outfield grass as they put on a hitting display en route to 6 runs and an early deficit for Fulda.

Fulda did threaten in the third inning. Down 7-0, Austin Blesi and Aron Hulstein both had base hits, but good Adrian defense erased both runners caught stealing. Garrett Johnson and Justin Dierks then added hits but Fulda was unable to push across any runs.

Adrian added 3 runs in the 4th inning to knock Kremer out of the game. Kellen Johnson pitched the last 1 1/3 innings, giving up 4 hits and striking out 2.

Garrett Johnson led the Fulda offense, reaching base twice including a single. Dierks, Blesi, Hulstein, and Jarred Jans added hits as well. Fulda plays Tuesday at Heron Lake, Friday at home against Worthington, and again the following Tuesday at Pipestone.

Fulda Legion battles hard but falls short against Heron Lake

Fulda put the tying run on 2nd base in the 7th inning but was unable to get him across as they fell to Heron Lake, 6-4. Brady Kremer and Brady Woldt led the offense for Fulda (0-2) with 3 and 2 hits respectively. Woldt added 2 RBIs and a double to help his cause on the mound. He threw all 6 innings, giving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits, walked one and struck out 9 batters.

Heron Lake got the scoring started in the first inning. Back to back singles and a balk led to the first run of the game, before a Fulda error and another single made it 2-0 Heron Lake. Brady Woldt was able to pitch his way out of that jam by getting a ground out and 2 strike outs to end the inning. Heron Lake was able to push their lead to 5-0 in the 4th with a single and two doubles in the inning, then added another run in the 4th.

Fulda started up their offense in the 4th inning. Brady Kremer and Brady Woldt led off with singles, and a Brandon Everett bunt single loaded the bases. Aron Hulstein followed with a sacrifice fly before a great catch and double play ended the threat. Fulda was able to cut the lead again in the 6th. Kremer and Woldt again led the inning with a single and RBI double. Woldt later scored on a wild pitch.

In the 7th, Will Gehl reached on an error. Justin Dierks and Kremer followed with 1-out singles, ultimately getting to 2nd and 3rd before the game ended.

Worthington gets past Fulda in entertaining offensive game

Fulda and Worthington combined for 24 runs in an entertaining game on Friday night of Wood Duck weekend in front of a big crowd. Fulda pounded out 9 hits and drew 7 walks in the game, which saw Fulda battle back from a 10-run deficit to make it 12-7 in the 4th before falling 16-8.

Worthington got the scoring started in the first with 3 runs off Fulda starter Garrett Johnson. The first 4 batters reached base before Johnson retired the last 3 in order. Fulda answered back in the second. Aron Hulstein was hit by a pitch and Brandon Everett reached on a bunt single. A Worthington error moved them to second and third, before Will Gehl had an RBI ground out to cut the score to 3-1.

Worthington added 3 more in the third, chasing Johnson. He gave up 6 runs on 4 hits with 5 walks in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out 2. Justin Dierks took over and limited the damage. Fulda scratched one across in the third after a Brady Woldt double and an Everett RBI walk.

The fourth inning was one of the most entertaining of the year. First, Worthington scored 6 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks. Things did not look good for Fulda with a 12-2 deficit, but they immediately answered back. Garrett Johnson drew a 1-out walk, then Dierks, Brady Kremer, and Woldt singled before a Cody Frodermann walk. The big blow came when Hulstein cracked a 3-run double to right-center, making the score 12-7. Worthington added 4 in the 5th, and Fulda got 1 back in the bottom of that inning to cap the final score at 16-8, with both teams going scoreless the last 2 innings.

Dierks led the offense, with 3 hits and a run scored. Kremer and Woldt each had 2 hits, Kremer scoring 2 runs and Woldt adding a double. Cody Frodermann scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Kremer threw the last 2 innings of the game and retired all 6 batters in order, striking out 2.
