Girls play well in tournament winning 2 of 4

The smell of sunflower seeds and nacho cheese was in the air the day of the Fulda Summer Rec Softball tournament, Monday July 10. Six teams were in attendance, Fulda, Adrian, Worthington YMCA, Worthington Storm, and two teams from Edgerton.

Fulda began the day at 9:00 playing Adrian in a back and forth battle in the field. Both teams scored one run in the first inning, before Fulda pulled ahead when Taryn Evers hit a double and then her teammates were able to bring her home. The game remained scoreless the third inning as both teams held each other off. The fourth inning the Adrian team was able to bring in 3 runners bringing the score to 2-4. Fulda was only able to respond with 1 run and the girls lost the first game of the day 3-4.

The Fulda Summer Rec crew did not let it bother them and bounced back with a win against Edgerton II. The game began with a solid first inning with four Fulda girls getting singles and bringing two of their teammates home to make the score 2-0. The second inning proved tough in the field for Fulda as Edgerton II was able to get four hits but strong fielding and confident throws to first kept Edgerton II scoreless, until the third inning when they were able to sneak in two runs making the score 3-2. The Fulda girls responded with a triple by Faith White which brought home Brooke Lais and an RBI from Raegan Phelps brought in Faith to bring the score to 5-2, which would remain through the final inning.

Moving up the bracket now, Fulda faced Worthington YMCA. Starting out in the field, Fulda held Worthington scoreless, even with their 3 hits, and headed into bat. Despite beginning with a  strike-out, the Fulda girls put the next five batters on base scoring two, before Worthington was able to get the final two outs and end the inning. Worthington would be held scoreless until the third inning as several strong hitters where able to make their way on base, and make the score 7-1. The final inning proved more efficient for the Worthington YMCA team as they scored another 3 runs against Fulda’s 1 run. It was not enough however, the game came to an end with a final score of 8-4, in favor of Fulda.

The next game was against Edgerton again, this time against Edgerton I. It began with Fulda at bat and they presented a strong front with hits from eight different players that brought in four runs, before a throw to first from the pitcher got the third out. Edgerton I responded with heavy hitters who got the bats swinging and would keep Fulda on their toes as they scored 5 runs in the first inning to bring the score to 4-5. Solid fielding from Edgerton I kept the Fulda girls to one run in the second inning and a throw to third, and a caught pop-fly ended the inning. Fulda would try to bounce back in the last two innings and scored a total of four more runs, but Edgerton I  kept a one run lead throughout the game. Fulda lost their final game of the day 9-10.
