Jerry’s Jottings 7-19-2017

There has been a few hot spells the last few weeks pushing our limited endurance. The rain, for most parts, has been there when we need it. The crops look good.

We went to New Ulm Sunday with friends to enjoy the Bavarian Blast. A good German outing. We ate well, with hot potato salad, sauerkraut and bratwurst. The beer was available all over the grounds and the selection of imports was really good.  I did buy an Edelweiss plant which is a member of the thistle family and is a symbol of the German band that was in Fulda 15 years ago. It is a white daisy-like flower that is mostly thornless. One highlight of the day was the Wiener Dog Race. My favorite was a young spry one who needed guidance to run straight. He did qualify for the final race scheduled for the evening feature. I was gone by then, but I just know those stubby legs carried him to the finish.

My boss called me into his office today.

“We both know you’re not the brightest spark here, Simon,” he said, “but over the last 5 years you’ve never been sick or late and I think you deserve a reward. So, how does a brand new car sound?”

“Vrooom! Vrooooom!” I replied.

An American tourist was visiting a small village in Newfoundland. He approached a local person and asked, “What’s the quickest way to Marystown?”

The local, scratched his head, “Are ya walkin’ er drivin’?” he asked the stranger.

“I’m driving,” said the stranger.

“Well, that’s the quickest way.”
