Thursday, August 10, 1967

At 2:45 a.m. Sunday, lightning struck the barn on the farm on which Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Karschnik live. The Dundee Fire Department responded, but the barn was fully engulfed by that time and was completely destroyed.

Lucky winner of the horse given away by Paul Schafer’s Jack & Jill Store is Miss Gaylene Busch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Busch.

Charles O. Anderson resigned as Murray County Assessor effective October 31st.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Benko are the parents of a daughter, Karri, born on Saturday. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Al Wordelman.

Jerome Dierks was honored at a family picnic recently as he prepared to leave for the Naval Reserve in San Diego.

Former Dundee resident Mrs. Delores (Schmitz) Allen was at work in Minneapolis when her 9 year old son was playing at the neighbors and accidently strangled himself on the clothesline. The funeral was held at Boyd.

St. Gabriel’s Catholic School  recently put in a new tennis court on their playground. It is open to the public.

Matt Behr, Eric Behr, and Darin Henning were busy doing some heavy duty fishing on a warm summer day at the Fulda lake this week. The boys were sure that even if they didn’t catch more than the four fish in the pail, that their mom would gladly fry them up. Not one of the boys was anxious for summer to end and school to start!

Diane Bloomer began her work as the new Community Education Director in Fulda on August 1st.

Behr Construction is working on constructing a turkey barn east of Fulda for the Fulda Independent Coop.

Pudge Sanow and John Dirks reviewed the progress on the seal coating of streets and the sewer projects with the Fulda City Council at a recent meeting.

The city dump will be closed to all material except trees, brush and leaves.

Lynn Christensen and David Ernest were united in marriage on June 20th at Hanging Gardens in Duncanville, Texas.

Mary Tucker and Gary Kuehl were united in marriage on June 11th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte, Nebraska.

Teri Bain and Randall Wisdorf announce their engagement. A September 5th wedding is planned.

Lawrence Tammeus passed away on August 1, 1987 at the age of 45 years old.

Lois Knutson and Louise Johnson recently returned from a trip to Norway and Germany where they visited Lisbeth Muir, an exchange student who stayed at the Knutson home 10 years prior. While in Norway the ladies stopped in the Ringerikes Blad newspaper office.

Murray County Ethnic Day held in Slayton on Saturday complete with Lin-Hans-Rud Scandinavian Folk Dancers, Soloman Derby Indian dance, and Mooncoin Ceile Dancers.

St. Paul’s School welcomes new principal… Steve Parry comes to St. Paul’s from Macomb, Illinois where he served as a teacher/principal at Good Shepherd Lutheran School.

Floyd Ragan, Murray County Conservation Officer recently received notice of his forced retirement due to age. Ragan has served the area for 34 years.

The Fulda City Council heard from Don Schwab and Del Goedtke with concerns on the sanitary sewer problems and what is to be done about them.

After failing to come to an agreement with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, approximately 33 members of the UPS local #638 Union went on strike, along with UPS works from all over the country. This is the first national strike UPS has ever experienced.

Stacey Sellman and Jason Overgaauw announce their engagement. A September 19th wedding is planned.

Eugene “Tiny” DeFriese passed away July 31st at the age of 65 years old.

Margaret Pollak passed away on July 29th at the age of 91 years old.
