Three men from Africa spent nine days in the Fulda area learning about American farming techniques. They plan to take many ideas home with them where, having no big machinery, they still use walking plows with oxen.  They have few fences leaving their cattle to be watched by shepherds in the fields.

Fulda Superintendent Alex Fisher has been elected to the State MASA Executive Board of School Administrators.

Pink Ladies sponsor birthday party at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.  Celebrating birthdays this month are Mrs. Anna Helweg, Tony Parrott, Mrs. Alma Schmidt, Mrs. Clara Clark, Mrs. Florence Correll and Mrs. Ethel Samp.

Mrs. Lyle Rue passed away August 28th.

Mrs. Charles Hendricks passed away on August 22nd.

Nicholas Ruppert passed away on August 21st.

Mrs. Frank Wilkin passed away on August 20th.

Mr. and Mrs. William Sandefur are the parents of a daughter, born August 20th. Grandmother is Mrs. Mollie Magnus.

Kathleen Holland and Roger Hellwinkel were united in marriage on August 26, 1967 at House of Prayer American Lutheran Church of Richfield.

Barbara Zemler and Roger Bunkers were united in marriage in a double-ring ceremony at St. Joseph, the Workman Church in Huntimer, SD, on August 19th.

Diane Preuss and Raymond Handy were united in marriage at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Okabena on August 12th.

Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1987

Members of the Fulda Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts loaded 20.6 tons of newspaper this weekend. The Scouts collect the papers from area residents the second Saturday of each month.

Rose Magnus is honored as Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Ray’s Barbershop received a fresh coat of paint this week thanks to Larry Aanenson and Harold Haar who assisted Ray Kremer.

The Gerald Bodelson VFW Post 9017 and Auxiliary will celebrate their 40th Anniversary on Sept. 15th at the Corral Supper Club.

Brenda Larson and Richard Kuhle were married on July 11th at Blessed Sacrament Church in La Crosse by Msgr. Anthony P. Wagener.

Phyllis Sievers, along with her horse, Bandit’s Good Friday, was crowned new club queen of the Worthington Saddle Club.

Arla and Warren Tate are the parents of a boy, Avery, born August 17th. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Jones.

Jim and Ann Witzel are the parents of a son, Andrew James, born August 26th. Grandparents are Don and Rita Fest and Ralph and Lorraine Witzel.

Rick and Valerie Schwantes are proud to announce the arrival of their daughter, Alice Margaret, on August 26th. It was a very special day for Margaret Holinka, as her great-granddaughter was born on her 88th birthday.  Grandparents are Frank and Irma Schwantes and Rosemary and Edward Schweigert. 

Paul and Jane Wandersee are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Theresa, born August 28th. Grandparents are Marvin and Lavina Wandersee.

Russel Loftus joins staff at the Fulda Elementary School as principal.

The Fulda Public School Board of Education voted to reinstate the social worker position of Kathy Onken at the Tuesday meeting.

Kraig Boese, Avoca, opens Auto Design Specialist Shop conveniently located on Highway 59 just a mile north of Avoca.

Emily Kramer, Fulda was injured in a 2 car accident on Monday, August 25th. Kramer was airlifted to Sioux Falls. Her condition is unknown at this time.  Driver of the other vehicle, Melvin Reith was not injured. Both vehicles were considered totaled.

The Pink Ladies donate two new hair dryers to Maple Lawn Nursing Home through funds raised at a recent bake sale.

Teena Metzger and Jerry Hogan were married April 19th at the Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall in Lester, Iowa.

Vicky Moschell and Mark Hakeneis announce their engagement. A December 26th wedding is planned.

Lucille M. Utz passed away August 12th after a breif illness at the age of 81 years old.

Verna Clausen passed away at the age of 79 years old on August 20th.

John ‘Jack’ Wisdorf passed away on August 22nd at the age of 94 years old.

Citizens of Tomorrow include Joshua DeGreef and Lacey Johnson; Emily and Justin Bakke; and Sarah and Tyler Opdahl.
