WESTBROOK — A talented and athletic group of experienced football players at Westbrook-Walnut Grove High School moved the ball on the ground and through the air on their home field last Thursday evening (August 31) and earned a 58-14 victory over the Fulda Raiders in the season-opener for both teams.
Fulda scored a pair of touchdowns, both on long runs by junior quarterback Levi Spittle, as the Raiders worked hard to compete against the diversified Chargers.
“Levi had two nice long runs for touchdowns,” praised first-year FHS head coach Jonathon Curry about the 174-pound speedster. “He has good speed and has great vision to make the right cuts in the open field.”
Spittle broke loose for a 62-yard TD run in the second quarter. He also scored the two-point conversion on a quarterback keeper as the Raiders trailed 30-8 at intermission.
Spittle’s second touchdown burst covered 67 yards midway through the fourth quarter, completing the game’s scoring. A Spittle pass attempted to senior wingback Noah Salentiny for the two-pointer was unsuccessful as W-WG closed out the 58-14 victory.
