Gerald Bodelson VFW Post 9017 marking 70th Anniversary

Fulda’s Gerald Bodelson VFW Post 9017 is marking its 70th anniversary during 2017. It was chartered on January 5, 1947. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post have all served in a foreign war.

The Fulda VFW Post was named after Gerald Bodelson who had served in World War II. He died from injuires sustained in a vehicle accident just two weeks after his discharge from the service.

Charter members of the Gerald Bodelson Post were Emil DeFreese, Fritz DeFreese, Phil Elskamp, Russel Gerdes, L. C. Gerhard, Rich Gilbertson,  Edwin Janssen, Al Speckmier, Fran Czepa, Lewis Coburn, Ervin Krueger, Tony DeGrote, Ed Gerdes, Kenneth Beckman, Joyce Evenson, and Marvin Beckman. The Commander for this first group of VFW members in Fulda was Edwin Janssen.
