Parade of Trees to kick off this Sunday

Get in the Holiday Mood at the Dinehart Holt House this season.

Upon its creation in 1891, the Dinehart Holt House was the cultural heart of Slayton. Flora brought the first piano to the county and her daughter, Florence Holt, was the pianist and organist for the First Presbyterian Church for 40 years! In their honor the 2017 theme for the Murray County Museum Parade of Trees is “The Music of the Season.” “From Angels We Have Heard on High” to “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree” the possibilities are endless.

This year the entire house, upstairs and down, will be available to decorate in the luster of the holiday spirit. There will be sixteen indoor trees, and several outdoor trees, as well as a decorative decked-out front porch and stair railings.

Area organizations and businesses have taken up the task of creating a beautiful holiday scene decorating all the spaces in the home including the dining room buffet.

The public is invited to tour the house on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1:00-5:00 p.m. November 16th – December 16th (excluding Thanksgiving weekend) for a donation of $3 or membership in the Historical Society.

This Sunday, November 12th, will kick off the holiday season at the house with an open house from 1:00-5:00 p.m. in conjunction with the holiday open houses downtown. There is no charge for admittance this Sunday and visitors are welcome to enjoy the decorations. Coffee and apple cider is available. Christmas music will be played as visitors wander around the home.

In addition to the splendor of the home decorations, Jim Surprenant and Christy Riley will be providing two teams of Shire horses and give rides from 1:00-3:00. Rides are $5.00 per person – children 5 years and under are free. 100% of the ticket sales will benefit the Dinehart Holt House.
