In memory of Marian Hanson

1926-Marian Hanson-2017

Marian Hanson was born on August 11, 1926 in Lamberton, Minnesota to Leonard and Maude Kennedy Herrmann. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. The family moved to Hadley, Minnesota where her parents ran the grocery store. They later moved to a farm near Balaton, Minnesota where Marian graduated from Balaton High School in 1944. Following high school Marian moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On June 20, 1949 she and Floyd Hanson were married at Lowville Lutheran Church in Hadley. Following their marriage they farmed near Dundee, Minnesota until purchasing a farm near Dovray, Minnesota in 1959. Marian worked various jobs over the years her last job was at a S.L.S home in Slayton, Minnesota where she remained until retiring at the age of 80. Marian and Floyd enjoyed stopping at the Country Host for pie, coffee and visiting with friends as often as possible. Floyd passed away on June 7, 2013. Marian remained on the farm until April 2015 when she became a resident of Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy, Minnesota. She passed away there on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the age of 91. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray. One of Marian’s greatest pleasures was spending time with her family and serving them her homemade goodies. Marian enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune, and traveling. Marian will be remembered as being patient, kind and someone that put others before herself. She will also be remembered for her great holiday meals.

Survivors include her five children and their spouses: Rick and Louise Hanson, Brooksville, FL, Gary and Julie Hanson, Currie, MN, Shirley and Butch Scarset, Westbrook, MN, Steven and Angela Hanson, Maplewood, MN, and Lee Hanson, Marshall, MN; one son-in-law Tom Messenbrink, Avoca, MN; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one brother Kenneth Herrmann, Willmar, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Floyd; son Bruce Hanson; daughter Linda Messenbrink  and grandson Nicholas, “Nick” Hanson.

Funeral services were held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray, MN on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Stephanie Swanson officiating. The organist was Denae Nelson. The pallbearers were her grandchildren. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.  Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton was entrusted with arrangements.
