In memory of Betty Dillion

1929-Betty Dillon-2017

Betty Marie Dillon of Rochester, MN passed away suddenly from cardiac complications on December 18, 2017 while visiting family in Texas.  Betty was born on November 3, 1929 in a farmhouse between the towns of Fulda and Windom, MN, the daughter of John and Anna (Clausen) Hartman.  Betty graduated from Lakefield, MN high school on May 29th, 1947.  She attended Mankato Teacher College for a short time and then moved to Worthington, MN.  She met Bob Dillon at the Lakefield roller skating rink and they were married on October 10, 1948.  They resided in Slayton, Minnesota where Betty was involved in many community and church activities.  Betty served the Slayton United Methodist Church faithfully for over 30 years as church school superintendent and education chairman.  She also taught Sunday school, religion release class and bible studies and was a United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) counselor.  Through Prayer Shawl Ministries, her crocheted prayer shawls gave comfort to many. If there was an event at church, she was ready to assist.  She participated in scouting as a leader from Girl Scout Brownies through Girl Scout Seniors and served as secretary for the counsel.  A great Mom, she could be seen cheering on her children at all school events.  Her hobbies over the years included ceramics, embroidery, knitting/crocheting, coloring and participating in several bridge clubs.   One of her greatest blessings was a group of very close friends that she made many memories with and loved like family.   Betty will be remembered as a generous, kind-hearted, community minded woman with a terrific sense of humor who loved her family and the Lord.

Betty will be dearly missed by her children Kathleen (Glenn) Aguilar, Kevin (Cathy) Dillon, Kari (Bill) Mackey, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Dillon, two infant baby boys, her parents and son-in-law, Joe Bob Johnson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the United Methodist Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, January 13th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Lori Von Holtum officiating.  The organist is Janet Voges with special music by Sue Muck.  A private interment will be at Lakefield Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of Slayton, MN.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.  To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com.
