The Fulda Public School Board of Education held a special meeting on January 17th with the sole purpose of hearing a report from Representative Ted Winter and, in turn, voicing their concerns. Also, attending the meeting were Fulda Superintendent Doug Froke, MCC Superintendent Smit and several members of the MCC School Board. Several topics were discussed; funding for education in K-12; adding three days to the school year (which were not budgeted); soliciting students and discrimination; state wide testing; and high education.
Troy Reed, Good Times Bar and Grill, has taken the act of donating to the next level. He began a game called Pik-a-team where each of the 94 participants picked who they thought would win in the NFL football games each week. Wrong answer cost the participant 25¢ which was put into a collection jar. At the end of the 17 week regular NFL football season Reed found himself just as surprised as his patrons. They had tallied approximately $300 to be donated to the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Friends of the Library and DARE – all of Fulda. This being a game of fun, participants did not receive a payout, however weekly prizes were awarded – most of which were donated by Holinka Distributing. The overall winner of the game, Kevin Beeck, received a trophy, which was given to the participant with the lowest number of wrong picks for the completed NFL season.
