In memory of Louis Gieselman

1938-LOUIS GIESELMAN-2018

Louis Anthony Gieselman was born on September 7, 1938 on the family farm near Dundee, Minnesota to Anton and Emma Schad Gieselman.  In 1947 the family moved to a farm near Iona, MN where Louie graduated from St. Columba High School in 1957.  On July 15, 1961 he and Clarice Voss where married at St. Rose of Lima Church in Avoca, MN.  Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton until 1975 when they moved to Avoca.  Louie worked at the City of Avoca Bar as the bartender for 26 years.  In August 2017 Louie became a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda and passed away there on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the age of 79.  He was a member of St Ann’s Church in Slayton.  Louie was a past member of the Avoca Fire Department.  Louie enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, watching the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings, woodworking and trips to Arkansas.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice Gieselman of Avoca, MN, four children and their spouses, Roger and Deb Gieselman of Bella Vista, AR, Dale and Glenda Gieselman of Garfield, AR, Ray and Mary Gieselman of Bella Vista, AR, and Barb and Todd Paplow of Fulda, MN, eight grandchildren, Cameron, Devin, Vivian and Vaida Gieselman, Jessie and JC Brown and Jeremiah Gieselman, Tyler Paplow and Keri and Cory Sandhurst, two great-grandchildren, Emma Brown and Cassidy Sandhurst, three sisters-in-law, Carol Gieselman of Roseburg, OR, Noreen Gieselman of Roseburg, OR, and Leona Gieselman of Fulda, MN and many brother and sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews.    He is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Edward, Bernard, Cyril “Duke”, Charles, and Leo Gieselman, one sister, Lorraine and her husband, Russ Knapp, his parents-in-law, Frank and Clara Voss, three brothers-in-law, Tom, Jim and Richard Voss, and one sister-in-law, Carol Voss.

Funeral Services at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating.  The organist is Judy Andrews.  The song leader is Joanne Halbur.  The pallbearers are Bob Voss, Ed Voss, Gene Voss, Mark Voss, Steve Voss, Leo Voss, Dan Voss, and Stanley Voss.  The honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren.  Interment will be at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Avoca, MN.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 5, 2018 at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.  Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements.  To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com
