Area seventh grade students participate in Courage Retreat

The annual seventh grade Courage Retreat was held last week. Sponsored by the Nobles County Integration Collaborative, the retreat brings students together from all the schools in the county.

Youth Frontiers staff led the large group activities, in addition to sharing stories of their own. High school leaders from several area schools assisted with small group activities and questions during the Courage Retreat.

“All of us have the same fears,” Ben pointed out. Whether it’s how you look, how others view you, how to fit in, being rejected or what people think, fears are found throughout our lives. “Listen to your cor, listen to your heart,” Ben added. Cor is the Latin word which is the root of the word courage, and means heart.

Defining courage as “following your heart,” Ben from Youth Frontiers pointed out that “It’s not easy, but it matters.”  He shared a story where he didn’t have the courage to stand up and say stop. “I felt stuck,” he said. A friend did have the courage to stand up and stopped the situation, saying “knock it off, it’s not funny.”
