About 475 anglers registered for and took part in the annual Heron Lake Young Men’s Club ice fishing tournament on Saturday, February 10. Held on West Graham Lake, this year’s crowd exceeded last year’s total by about 100.
It was a perfect day to enjoy ice fishing in Minnesota and many did just that. Fish were registered in three categories, walleyes, northerns and panfish, and winners were presented with cash prizes.
In the walleye division, Kristen Aljets was the winner, with a 3.97 pound fish. Gene Wedeking (2.24 lbs.), Mike Rossow (1.98), Ryan Sinnamon (1.57) and Seth Rossow (1.56) were the second through fifth place winners in the category.
Jeremy Nagorski hauled in a 3.36 pound Northern to take top honors in that division. In second was Travis Swanson (2.35 lbs.), with Tom Krumbach (2.13), Braden Jenson (2.11) and Alex Altman (2.09) rounding out the top five.
Andrew Madsen brought in the largest panfish, at .81 pounds. Chris Daisy (.70) and Marty Brandt (.69)took second and third place. Three were tied at .68 pounds, placing in a three-way tie for fourth, fifth and sixth. Mike Rossow, Krew Aljets and Darrel Warborg earned cash prizes.
In addition to the fishing, the Young Men’s Club held their annual raffle on Saturday. Funds go towards youth programs and projects throughout the area. Winners are as follows:
