Fulda High School students to be recognized for academic achievements

Through cooperative discussions among Fulda High School administration, teachers and a student leadership team, a decision has been made to recognize students in grades 7 though 12, at the end of each quarter, for their academic achievements.

FHS Principal, Tyson Walker, said, “The student leadership team came up with criteria to identify for the academic acknowledgements.  Any student who achieves a 3.0 grade point average for the quarter will have their accomplishment recognized. We don’t want to miss out on opportunities to recognize our students in a positive way.”

Once the student leadership team offered their ideas for academic achievement recognition, Principal Walker met with  the sub-committee of teachers  within the school and they loved the idea

Mr. Walker emphasized that the student leadership team members are a strong representation of the whole student body. “The committee is sophomores and juniors. They believe that there are some things that they can do to recognize their peers and to encourage one another,” he said.

As part of the Academic Achievement Acknowledgement,  a listing of students who achieve the 3.0 GPA will be published in the Fulda Free Press at the end of each quarter. “This recognition will be per quarter, not accumulative,” Principal Walker explained. “That way, each student has a fresh start each quarter.”

FHS students were informed  of the academic achievement acknowledgement program at the beginning of the third quarter so that they knew they could work toward goals that they set for themselves.

The student leadership committee is also discussing more ways to recognize academic achievements. “It is pretty cool to hear them talk about this. They have some very good ideas,” Principal Walker stated.
