1926-JOHN MCDONALD-2018
John “Jack” Edward McDonald, age 91, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 2, 2018. Jack was born on May 24, 1926 in Aurora, Illinois to Edward and Naomi (Brown) McDonald. The family resided on farms outside of Boyceville and Menomonie, Wisconsin. Jack attended a country school, St. Joseph Catholic School and Boyceville High School, and joined the Army after graduation. He began tinkering with engines at an early age, which led to his career as an auto mechanic. Returning home after his discharge, he wed Jean Kistner on September 9, 1950. For the first few years of their marriage, the couple resided in Menomonie, Wisconsin, where Jack was an auto mechanic for Berg Chevrolet. They moved to the Twin Cities, where Jack worked for Lloyd’s Automotive, Southview Chevrolet, Merit Chevrolet, and Carver General Repair, ultimately retiring from auto mechanics in 1996. In 2006, Jack and Jean moved to Fulda, Minnesota, where they resided until August of 2017, when Jack was accepted into the VA Home in Luverne, Minnesota.
Jack was a big kid at heart, and loved to give people a hard time. His fascination with nature drove him to explore plants, animals, rocks and how everything works. Jack was an avid fisherman, deer hunter and rock hound. He enjoyed playing cards, as well as reading. He loved laughter and music. After he gave his heart to the Lord in 1975, he frequently served as a greeter and member of the church choir. He most recently attended Word of Faith in Avoca, Minnesota.
Preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Naomi McDonald, and sister, Dorothy Knops. Survived by his loving wife, Jean; three children, Terry (John) Stenen, Mike McDonald, and Marie (Tom) Gehring; daughter-in-law, Lisa McDonald; sister, Marge LaForte; sisters-in-law, Shirley Kistner, Barb Kistner and Marilyn Kistner; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
