Carol Jean Ackerman was born on March 1, 1941 in Slayton, Minnesota to Harry and Viola Ellgen Pearson. She grew up on the family farm near Hadley, MN and graduated from Slayton High School in 1959. On March 1, 1960 she and David “George” Ackerman were married at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton. Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton where Carol worked at Engelkes Produce and at Murray County Produce. She later went to work at Campbell Soup Company in Worthington, MN. In 1969 Carol went to work at the Slayton Manor as a CNA and retired in 2010 after 41 years. David passed away on April 20, 2015. Carol passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at her home in Slayton at the age of 77. She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton and was a member of the CCW. She also was a member of the Slayton American Legion Auxiliary. Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, baking, puzzles of all sort, going for coffee with friends, watching talk shows and camping trip with family. She will be remembered for always buying her grandchildren’s birthday cakes, and making Special K Bars and cookies as well as Sunday night suppers with the family.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Shelley Ackerman and Vickie Engelkes, Penny and Todd Boock, and Randy and Betty Ackerman all of Slayton, MN, seven grandchildren, Austin, Aaron and Amber Boock, Bradley Danneman, Lexy, Trey and Carly Ackerman, one great-granddaughter, Madison Danneman, six brothers and sisters-in-law, John Wagley of Slayton, MN, Daniel and Evie Ackerman of Currie, MN, Darlene Schmidt of Tracy, MN, Leone Ackerman of Luverne, MN, Lois and Marvin Ferguson of Lake Wilson, MN, and Diane and Dwight Smith of Hasting, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, David, two siblings and their spouses, Arlys and Ray Stueven, and Marlene Wagley and Harold Swan, three sisters-in-law and their spouses, Betty and Harold Bjornobo, Mary and Bill Mahon, and Dora and Leon Pommier, one brother-in-law, Bob Ackerman, and nephew, Randy Stueven.
Memorial Services were held at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating. The organist was Sharon Lais. The song leader was Sheila Crowley. The honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren. Interment at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.
