Fulda distance ace finishes ninth in “Elite” Meet among state’s best distance runners Fulda freshman Morgan Gehl has run several amazing distance races in her stellar career in both cross country and track.

Last Friday evening, April 27, Gehl notched another superb performance, bettering her aunt’s 31-year old school record in the 3,200-meter (two miles) run.

Competing among the best two-milers in the entire state, the graceful-running Gehl moved up progressively through the field of 16 at the Elite Invitational Meet on the campus of Hamline University in St. Paul and finished with a blazing last lap, which placed her ninth with a new all-time school record clocking of 11:13.21.

Julie (Gehl) Kramer set the previous FHS record of 11:16.7 back in 1987.

“Getting the school record in the 3,200 was something that Morgan wanted to achieve,” exclaimed HL-O / Fulda head girls’ track and field coach Gary Hildebrandt, who pushed for Gehl’s inclusion in the “Elite” Meet. “She ran a great race, very evenly-paced against real quality competition and finished with a fantastic final lap, picking it up enough to run her best time ever.”
