Jerry’s Jottings 5-2-2018

We jumped into summer this week. A lot of wind, a little rain and May has arrived.

I like the look of green grass and the tulips are over six inches high. Mowing seems like something nice at this point, although that feeling may diminish as the year progresses. Right now we will have a few weeks without much for mosquitoes so it is the time to enjoy it. Saturday we did roast some hot dogs in the fire pit for lunch. While doing the roasting, I apparently got a little close to the fire and lost the last few hairs on the top of my head. It was a great source of humor for the other half of this picnic. She particularly liked the crinkled stubble that was left. Later that night, we grilled a few burgers without incident. It was a good day, pleasant, warm and just a slight breeze. We all know how Sunday and Monday went. Windy.

My cousin from the Minneapolis area has a son, Steve Werner, who lives in Dubuque, Iowa. He served three tours in Afghanistan and decided to get out after eight years of service because it was getting dangerous for a father of four. He was an EMT and he was assisting to take a patient to Chicago Thursday by ambulance. On the way back at two in the morning on Friday, the ambulance hit a tanker truck stopped for road construction on the Julien Dubuque Bridge. Steve Werner was the passenger, and the only one killed. Too young to die at the age of thirty-four.

I reluctantly went shopping with my wife so she could buy a new dress. She tried on several but they didn’t fit.

As she came out of the fitting room totally frustrated she remarked, “Nothing my size fits me anymore.”
