Pounding out six hits and scoring a trio of runs in both the third and fifth innings, Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda claimed a 6-1 victory over Red Rock Central / Westbrook-Walnut Grove at Laker Field in Heron Lake last Friday, May 4.

It was the first game of a conference double header against the defending Red Rock Conference champions. The Falcons scored five runs in the first two innings of the second game and won that tightly-played contest by a final score of 5-3.

The split left the Coyotes at 2-2 for the season with another home double header scheduled for this Friday (May 10), hosting Mountain Lake Area.

Senior veteran Taylor DeWall pitched a near complete-game gem for HLOF in last Friday’s home-opener against the Falcons. He struck out nine batters and gave up just four hits in five-and-two-thirds innings on the mound. Eli Becker took the hill with two out in the top of the sixth and induced a ground ball to DeWall at shortstop to preserve the victory.

“Taylor pitched a great game, only allowing one run,” summed up Coyotes’ head coach Chad Knutson. “Our defense played well without any errors, which sure helped.”
