On a cool and windy day at Windom on Friday, April 27, five Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda junior high girls each won a pair of events competing in a grade-level track and field meet.
HL-O sixth grader Samantha Untiedt won both the 100-meter low hurdles (18.73) and the 100-meter dash (13.91) getting off to a great start for the Coyotes.
Fulda seventh-graders Megan Bakke finished first in both the 1,600-meter run (6:28.88) and the 800 (3:00).
The Coyote seventh-graders finished first a total of six times, as Fulda seventh-grader Kelli Renneke won both the shot put (27-2) and discus (55-8) events.
Claire Reith, a Fulda eighth-grader, won her division’s titles in both the shot put (24-2) and discus (67-7), while Fulda freshman Tara Tuin topped the ninth-grade girls in both events (shot put, 24-9) and discus (52-0).
“It was quite a day for the girl throwers and distance runners,” summed up HLOF assistant coach Les Knutson. “Getting a 1-2 finish in the hurdles was a great way for the girls to start the meet.”
