The combined high school track and field program of Heron Lake-Okabena and Fulda held a large Junior High Invitational at Slayton on Thursday, May 3.
Several young Coyotes came through with stellar performances in the meet with nearly ideal spring weather conditions prevailing. Seven first-place finishes and eight second-place performances were notched by HL-O / Fulda athletes.
Eighth-grader Faith White was a double girls winner, placing first in the both the pole vault (6-6) and long jump (12-10.5).
Ninth-grader Zach Thier won two events in his boys’ division, topping the field in the shot put (45-2) and the discus (155-0) with the lighter junior high implements.
Ryder Henning (eighth-grade boys pole vault, 8-0), Anna Fest (seventh-grade girls 100-meter low hurdles, 19.0) and Skylar Fisher (eighth-grade girls, 1,600-meter run, 6:08) also earned blue ribbons for the Coyotes.
