Boys take third at WWG

On Tuesday, May 8, the Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda Coyotes took part in the Westbrook Boys Invite at Westbrook. Sunny conditions prevailed for the seven teams, who were competing on a par 72, 18 hole course.

The Murray County Central Rebels won the invitational, scoring 337 behind medalist Tyler Groves (70). MCC’s Jack Pierson was in second place, carding an 80. Preston Maassen (HBC), Cory Renneke  (HLOF) and Anthony Ross (WWG) tied for third through fifth, each shooting an 82.

HLOF finished in third, scoring 347, just behind Westbrook-Walnut Grove’s 340. Windom took fourth (350), Southwest Christian (381) was fifth, followed by Hills-Beaver Creek in sixth (390) and Mountain Lake Area in seventh (399).

In addition to Renneke’s 82, the Coyotes were aided in their third place performance by Payton Marquardt who finished with 84. Joe Fischer and Ben Sheldahl came in with 90 and 91 on the day.

The Red Rock Conference golf meet will be held on Wednesday, May 16 at Worthington.
