Scoring 51 of their 88 points in the field events at the 66th annual Trojan Relays in Worthington last Tuesday (May 15), Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda’s boys performed well in the big two-class high school track and field meet.

Paced by Sam Cheadle’s winning leap of 5-10 in the high jump (10 points), the Coyotes finished fourth among eight competing teams. HLOF racked up 24 more points on a trio of second-place efforts in three other field events, along with five other field-event placing performances

Cheadle, a junior, scored 10 points for the Coyotes as he claimed the gold medal in the high jump after clearing 5-10 with fewer misses than Southwest Minnesota Christian / Edgerton’s Joshua Raak who also made 5-10. Only three of the 13 competitors in the Class A boys’ high jump cleared 5-8.

Freshman Zach Thier (discus, 110-4), junior Gabe Spittle (pole vault, 10-0) and senior Matthias Kunerth (triple jump, 37-1) each earned silver medals by placing second.
