Thursday, May 24, 1973

The Child Care and Development class at the Fulda High School has completed a two week play-school laboratory experience under the supervision of instructor Mrs. Beltz. Students had the opportunity to observe children of different age levels during their interactions in this learning activity.

Commencement will be held Friday night at the Fulda High School when 80 graduates of the class of 1973 will cross the stage to receive their diplomas.

Memorial Day program will be observed May 28th.

Jaycees held their Sandbox Days this past weekend with the help of Beeck’s Sand & Gravel and Great Plains Supply Company. Tires were furnished by Rich Gilbertson.

Tim Beeck named Most Valuable Player for 1973 by the Fulda Raider baseball coaching staff. Tim lead the team with a .454 batting average and was a defensive stand out at first base.

In an effort to raise money for the Crippled Children’s Home, Edward Madison, Jr. Trudy Madison, Edward Madison, Scott Schlapkohl, Mark Schlapkohl and Don Schlapkohl rode their horses through town collecting $209.63 to be donated.

Fulda’s new proposed municipal swimming pool drawing shows the outside view of the pool which would be located on the south east corner of the park where the present tennis court is located. The floor plan was selected and the bids will be let out soon on the project. It is hopped that the pool will be completed for next year’s swimming season.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Zanter are the parents of a baby girl, Darcy Rose, born May 19th in Rochester. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kolander and Mrs. Etta Zanter.

Mrs. Caroline Horkey honored on 90th birthday in Dundee by over 150 friends and relatives.

George Anderson passed away on May 14th at the age of 85 years old.

Funeral services for Edgar Dalin, 74, who passed away at his home in Los Angeles, California were held on May 15th at the Bensen Funeral Home.

“Due to a shortage of gas we will be closed at 6PM every week day until further notice” – Rich’s Skelly.

The Fulda School Board spent time discussing the possibility of going to a Smoke Free School.

Dora (Handy) Biegler shares her memories of working at the bakery and raising horses near Wirock.

Bernard Gotmer is a lover of wood. He can look at a piece of unfinished wood, a tree limb or a piece of from the wood pile and see the beauty in it. He has created many items from small wooden crosses to a grandfather clock.

Julie Heintz is crowned 1987 Miss Fulda. Court of honor includes Cindy Peterson, Andrea Odenbrett, and Phyllis Sievers.

Reuben Hartman and Mabel Behr were married in May of 1938 and will be  honored with a card shower by their children in celebration of 50 years.

Mr. and Mrs. David Popken are the parents of a baby girl born May 17th. Grandparents include Mrs. Edward Gilkey and Mrs. Paul Popken.

Joyce Evenson received a 50 year pin from the Murray Lodge #199.

Winners of the 6th grade Grandparents Day Essay contest were Matthew Hakeneis and Anny Krueger.

Celebrating birthdays at Maple Lawn Nursing Home were Margaret Weinzetl, Priscilla Hakeneis and Anna Volk.

The flag being flown in front of the Murray County Courthouse this week is in honor of E. O. “Fritz” Reusse who served in the U.S. Navy from 1918 to 1922.

A Memorial Day Service was held in Fulda on Monday, May 25th, to pay tribute to and remember those who fought and died for our country.

Megan Enninga spent four days “Getting into a Food Mood” at a special conference sponsored by the National 4-H Council and Purina Mills, Inc.

The Board of Education for School District 505 elected to approve the implementation of the Grad Standards at their meeting held on May 19th.

St. Paul Avenue update – NO TRAFFIC ALLOWED AFTER JUNE 8. According to Charlie Hopkins, Economics Development Coordinator, “Things are progressing well.”  Beginning the second week in June the road will be closed until the project is completed.

Wax Museum was held by the fifth grade class from the Fulda Elementary School on Wednesday.

A short ceremony was held on May 23 to dedicate a new sign placed in front of Maple Lawn Nursing Home. The sign was given in memory of John J. and Margaret H. Wisdorf by the Wisdorf family members.

Jeff Baumgartner has earned his way into the sectional meet and would not mind ‘jumping into the state meet’.  Baumgartner will compete in four events at sections this Thursday; Triple Jump, High Jump, 400 Meter and 800 Meter. “I’m just hoping to have a good day,” he says about Thursday’s meet.

Bob Herrmann is honored as Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Jennifer Sampson and Adelbert Wildfeuer are engaged to be married. The couple plans a June 6th wedding.

Kelly and Nellie Jans are happy to announce the arrival of Lynsey Marie on May 19th. Grandparents are John and Joyce Jans and Dan and Pam Engstrom.

Velma Betz, formerly of Fulda, passed away May 18th at her home in New Ulm. Velma was 77 years old.
