Loretta Gehl, who has served, and continues to serve in a variety of capacities, at St. Paul’s Lutheran School and Church, has been chosen as this year’s Grand Marshal for the Fulda Wood Duck Festival Parade.
Learning for a Lifetime is the theme of this year’s Fulda Wood Duck Festival which will be celebrated Wednesday, June 13 through Sunday, June 17th. The theme is in honor of St. Paul’s Lutheran School’s 125th anniversary which will be celebrated during July
The theme of Learning for a Lifetime not only applies to what St. Paul’s Lutheran School provides its students, but it also applies to Mrs. Gehl who has been extremely instrumental in making sure that students are prepared to be lifetime learners. She declares herself to be a lifetime learner and stated, “I am certainly one of those people. You have to be willing to learn throughout your lifetime. Learning continually shapes who you are.”
Mrs. Gehl grew up near Lakefield, Minnesota. She graduated high school and went on to attend Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato. Graduating in 1950, she recalled her first memory of Fulda. “Elders from St. Paul’s Lutheran approached the professors at Bethany about finding teachers for their open teaching position for grades 3, 4, and 5. I accepted the position. Of course, the graduating students were assisted in their decision-making by the professors, and we did go on their advise. When school opened that fall, I had 32 students in the room.”
