Reverend Ernest L. Gutha, 40 was installed as the pastor of the Presbyterian churches of Fulda and Westbrook on Sunday, June 10th.

A. F. Gertjejansen, Manager of Interstate Power company announced today that Mr. A. W. Koopman has been promoted to District Operating Superintendent effective June 18th.

Vicki Holinka, has been crowned Summer Festival Queen. Tony Ramert has been named first alternate and Mary Jo Clarke second alternate.

The Fulda Village Council announced Monday the hiring of Jerry Hoff as new police chief for Fulda.

The lawn of the Dan Herrman farm in rural Westbrook provided the outdoor setting for the marriage of Leah Herrmann and Douglas Brinks on Saturday, June 2nd.

Alvina Popken passed away on May 31st at the age of 97 years old.

On June 3rd Helen Hedquist became suddenly ill at her farm home and was rushed to the hospital where she died shortly after arrival. Mrs. Hedquist was 56 years old.

Hazel Johnson passed away following a long illness at the age of 56 years old on June 6th.

Junior Julie Kramer became Fulda’s first State Champion in girls track as she won the 1600 meter run this past Saturday in the Minnesota State Track Meet at White Bear Lake.  Her winning time of 5:05.65 was two seconds better than her nearest competitor.

ramer will be traveling to Japan on a mission trip where she will teach conversational English to Japanese students. Teresa is a student at Northwesten College in Orange City, Iowa.

Harvey Carroll has been instrumental in bringing Legion Ball back to the Fulda community. This year there are 19 young men between the ages of 15 and 18 out for the game.

The Fulda City Council calls a special meeting to finalize plans for a new drilled well in Fulda.

Peg and Don Olsem are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Mya born May 26th. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Paul Olsem and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pekarma.

Brittany Marie called collect to announce her arrival to Grandpa and Grandma Donald Uttech and Grandpa and Grandma Lloyd Baerenwald on Wednesday, June 8th from Tustin, California.

Peter Koob passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 11th at the age of 91 years old.

Monday, kids from around the area enjoyed the cool water at the Slayton pool with temps soaring close to 90 degrees.

Ground was broken at the future site of the Prairie Expo building near Worthington on Friday morning. Included in the  facility ceremony were Joe LeTendre, Charlie Hopkins, Ron Lawrence and Ted Winter.

The Fulda City Council voted to issue a revenue bond for improvements in street lights, sanitary sewer, engineering and a lift station. The revenue bond issued is for $320,000.

Jim Klobuchar, a retired Minneapolis Star Tribune columnist, began his bike hike adventure 24 years ago at the request of his readers. He continues to ride the 400 to 500 mile hikes each year even at the age of 70.

Fulda under construction weekly update – Larson Crane crew is in the process of installing new sewer lines to individual households. Residents will be informed when it is advisable for them NOT to use their sewer systems.

Vacation Bible School was a smash hit at three Fulda churches last week complete with crafts, skits, songs, and bible lessons.

Fulda Wood Duck Festival to be held June 26, 27, and 28, 1998 with the theme Woody Under Construction!

Fulda Choir members make trip to Boston and New York City where they performed at The Old North Church in Boston, Trinity Church in Boston, Carnegie Hall in NYC, Lincoln Plaza in NYC and Medieval Times in NYC under the direction of Mrs. Linda Lund.

Verne and Nellie Pals celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house on June 27th.

Elsie Meier to observe her 90th birthday on June 21st with an open house.

Dorothy Engler passed away at the age of 77 years old on June 8, 1998.

Jennifer Paulzine and Lee Palmer announce their engagement. A July 11th wedding date has been set.

Craig and Amy Gertsema are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Brianna born on June 9th. Grandparents include Jim and Sandy Gertsema and Leslie and Janet Engler.
