Thursday, June 21, 1973

Construction was started on the Farmer’s Elevator new grain storage area last week. Two 48’ diameter by 60’ high steel tanks that will hold 97,000 bushel each have been laid out and footings are in.

Murray County has hired another deputy bringing the total to three under Sheriff Muck.

Firemen were called out on Sunday to extinguish an automobile fire. The vehicle owned by Art Stenke received minor damages. The cause of the fire was faulty wiring.

A building, estimated to be 60 to 80 years old found a new home on Thursday as it was transported down St. Paul Ave. to the Harold Bottin farm where it will be used for storage. The building came from the Farmers Co-op Commission Company in Fulda.

A Scout Roundtable was held in the Fulda City Park with adult Scout leaders from around the area attending. Leaders from Fulda included Wally and Midge Johlfs, Phil and Lois Elskamp and Jerry Johnson.

A pamphlet has been compiled by a group of high school students on Minnesota 18-year-olds rights and responsibilities. As of June 1st 18-year-olds were granted full legal rights by the State Legislature.

Entertaining residents at Maple Lawn Nursing Home for June birthdays were Nadine Gutha on guitar, Lori Speckmier and Lynn Johnson vocal.

CT-2 and Mrs. Rodney Loosbrock are the proud parents of a baby girl born June 5th. Grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kass and Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Mahon.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Howe, Jr. announce the arrival of 3 year-old twin daughters, Rae Linnea and Lea Elizabeth on May 31st from Seoul, Korea.

Odelia Miller passed away at the age of 98 years old on June 14.

Clara Moore passed away on June 5th at the age of 81 years old.

Pearly Nelson, 79, passed away June 8th at the Tracy hospital.

John Ramerth, 81, passed away on June 17, 1973.

Margaret Eley passed away at the age of 73 on June 10th at her home.

Wednesday, June 22, 1988

Lisa Newton will be replacing Lisa Abicht Swenson as administrator of Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Early Tuesday (June 14) morning the Corral Supper Club was burglarized. The empty safe was found seven miles west and one/half mile south of Windom. $1,000 was the amount taken. The crime is under investigation by the Murray County Sheriff’s Dept.

Margaret Evelyn Jezewski is honored as Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Laura, Niet and Nella, sisters from Holland, spent time visiting their brother, Harry Bekx of Fulda as well as three brothers in Wisconsin and one in Iowa. The brothers each emigrated from Holland looking for work beginning in the 1940s until Harry in 1956.

James and Robin Gehl are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Kindel Ruth born June 15th. Grandparents include Walt and Rose Gehl and Doug and Ruth Ann Knutson.

Rick and Lori Goedtke are proud to announce the new addition to their family, Brittany Renee, who came into the world on June 16th. Grandparents are Dell and Margaret Goedtke and Rich and Pat Lanners.

Celebrating birthdays at Maple Lawn Nursing Home are Ted Vanden Bosch, Mema Beckman, and Elizabeth Hogan.

Clara Peddycoart passed away on June 15th of an apparent heart attack at the age of 76 years old.

Emory Beckman has been selected as the 1998 Wood Duck Festival Parade Grand Marshal with the theme “Under Construction”. Emery worked in construction for over 25 years.

Weekly rehearsals are underway as the Cantata prepares to perform “Nation, It’s Time to Pray” during the Wood Duck Festival under the direction of Ron Janssen.

Heather Uttech attends 1998 Girls State at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota this week.

Mrs. Elder was presented the Murray County Youth and Family Task force Shining Star Award for her commitment to young people and the difference she makes in the lives of Fulda youth.

Long distance telephone service was down for a time on Tuesday due to a farmer near Lamberton cutting a fiberoptic cable at approximately 9:45 a.m. Service was restored around 7:00 p.m. that evening.

Prairie Land Cooperative has been given the okay to build a 160’ x 450’ flat grain storage building in Heron Lake.

Brian and Allyson Storm are the proud parents of a son, Blake, born June 19th. Grandparents are LeRoy Baumgard and Marvin and Vi Storm.

Eric and Kelly Miller are the parents of a baby boy, Evan, born June 18th.

   Jeremy and Ashly Blesi announce the birth of a son, Austin born April 29th. Grandparents include LeRoy Baumgard and Fred and Diane Zemler.

Rev. James Ford passed away on June 17th at the age of 84 years old.

Verne and Nellie Pals celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on June 27th with an open house from 1 to 4 at the Corral Supper Club.
