Hanging high in a tree in Fulda City Park is a purple Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) detection trap. The traps are being used as part of the United States Department of Agriculture’s 2018 Emerald Ash Borer Survey which is monitoring known EAB infestations and locating other unknown EAB populations.
The trap is a three-dimensional triangular shape, made from thin, corrugated plastic. It is coated with non-toxic glue on all three exterior sides. Traps are about 24 inches long and are hung in ash trees. There is a lure in the interior to attract EAB to the trap.
The traps are placed in ash trees during the spring and early summer and will be removed in the fall.
