Tina Rohde and Colleen Shaskin, Wonder Weavers Storytellers from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, unfolded several pirate stories during their performance at Fulda City Hall on Wednesday morning.
Shaskin, acting the part of Pue the Pirate, with Rohde’s as her “matey” began their program with teaching the children words and phrases used by pirates. “Aargh, Shiver Me Timbers and Yo Ho Ho,” were well-learned by all. The participants even rolled up their pants legs (At least those who were wearing long pants did! Shorts were very acceptable.) so that they could walk through water. With their “hooks” (crooked fingers) ready to go, the song “All the Way, Up She Rises” was sung. The song included many very about what to do with a dirty pirate, a dirty first mate, and dirty grown-ups. They were all much cleaner after washing behind their ears!
According to the Wonder Weavers, the pirates had a dog on their ship. It’s name was George. George apparently had a bit of a problem because when he was told to fetch, he ran the other way. When told to sit and rollover, he successfully did both. But when told to bark, well, he meowed, and then quacked, and then baaed, and then mooed. Incapable of barking, George went to the veterinarian who removed a cow, a sheep, a duck, and a cat. Then George could bark. After returning to the pirate ship, George was told to bark, to which he said, ‘hello!’. It’s all in the book Bark, George, by Jules Feiffer.
