The Murray County Commissioners met in special session early Tuesday morning to receive an update on the current situation regarding the recent flooding.

Highway Department engineer, Randy Groves, says report damages are still coming in. “We’ve been doing a lot of repairs,” he explained, “requiring quite a bit of overtime.” His department has hauled rock to help shore up the dikes by Lake Shetek. “The dikes are a problem.” A sunken space was reported this morning on the first dike according to him. “The third dike is a real concern,” he said. At this time the dike remains closed due to water covering the roadway. “I feel once the water has receded, we need to work with the DNR to figure out a way to raise that entire dike.” Groves also mentioned the need for rip-rapping at the dikes to help with the shoulder issues.

Although most of the roads are opening back up, County Road 7 and 42 remain underway but will hopefully be open by the end of the week.

Along with washouts on several roads, a lot of surface gravel has also been lost according to Groves. The highway department is looking to put approximately an inch back on the gravel roads.
