The primary election is slated for Tuesday, August 14th. The ballot features a governor’s race, two senate races, and a slate of U.S. House races. In addition Murray County residents will vote their choice for sheriff and those in districts and three and four will add their nod to the commissioner candidates. Once the votes are tabulated, the top two candidates will be listed on the November 6th election ballot.
Balloting technology will greet this year’s voters in Murray County. Fifteen new voting machines recently arrived at the Murray County Courthouse. Each precinct will have one on scene. The County applied for a grant to help offset the cost of the machines. Murray County and one other county were the only counties left in the State of Minnesota that still did central count. Auditor/treasurer Heidi Winter received word in April they were awarded the grant which covered half the cost involved with updating the election equipment. Each machine tallied $5,000 a piece. According to Winter the week Murray County received their machines, additionally 60 other counties were also receiving theirs.
