Moving up progressively as the 5,000-meter race unfolded on the hills of the Mountain Lake Golf Course last Wednesday morning (August 29), Murray County Central junior Justin Clarke earned a 16th-place finish in the 14-team, 131 runner Paul Metcalf Invitational high school cross country meet.
Clarke completed the distance (3.1 miles) in 18:10.6, while five of his teammates were not far behind — finishing in places 21-29, just 28 seconds apart.
That kind of team balance produced a fifth-place team performance by the Rebels, who had a score of 109 points (16-21-22-23-27).
Worthington (1-3-7-18-32) claimed the first-place team trophy with its score of 61. Luverne (6-10-12-17-26) tallied 71 points and finished second, while Martin County West (4-9-14-24-25) was a close third with 72.
