Thursday, Sept. 13, 1973

Filings for Village offices will be open on September 26th. Village offices up for election are that of Mayor Marv Heinrichs, Councilman Clifford Suedbeck, Councilman Roland Miller and Constable Dale McKenzie. Election day is November 6.

The submersible pump in Well No. 1 burned out Monday night leaving the Village of Fulda without water pressure. Well No. 2 was unable to supply proper pressure. By Tuesday afternoon the city workman had the pump replaced.

More vandalism occurred at the city hall this week. Tuesday morning officials found the glass door was busted out. Last week damage was done to the bathrooms.

Rep. Russell Stanton will chair a hearing on the fuel oil shortages in the area on September 17th. The committee is very concerned of a shortage of LP Gas, gasoline and diesel fuel for local farmers, elevators, schools and area communities.

A new business to Fulda recently is Barnes and Pals Milling which is owned and operated by Lloyd Pals and Robert Barns. A dinner was held on Tuesday evening to acquaint farmers with Supersweet Feeds.

As of October 1st, vehicles bought or transferred by private parties will to be titled by the purchaser. Vehicles affected by the Title Law include trucks, automobiles, station wagons, motorcycles, mobile homes and camper.

A baby girl, Kim Ann, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Van Oort on August 29th.

Albert Beckman passed away on September 2nd at the age of 71 years old.

Funeral services for Velma McKenny, 60, were held on September 4th in Florida.

Wednesday, Sept. 14, 1988

Paul and Kathleen Stumm were awarded Century Farm Status this summer. The farm place has been in the family since 1882 when Paul’s grandparents homesteaded the farm.

Fanny Dekker handed over the keys to Postmaster Ed Balt reluctantly as she is retiring after seventeen years at the local post office.

The DAC (Developmental Achievement Center) has been in Murray County for 20 years.

Mike Michelau caught a 7.87 pound walleye measuring 28” long in the Fulda lake.

Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home for September is Bernard Cosgriff. Bernard was born on a farm near Schaller Iowa in September of 1900 and moved to the Fulda area in 1914.

Karyn Aune and Roger Zins were united in marriage at First United Presbyterian Church, Canby on August 13th.

Theresa Tveit and Roger Lee Gerber were united in marriage on July 30th at Christ the Savior Lutheran Church.

Martin H. Onken passed away on May 29th at the age of 89 years old.

Paul E. Burst passed away on August 22nd at the age of 63 years old.

Coronation begins Homecoming Week with the crowning of Alaina Paplow and Gus Mendoza.

Fulda City Council hears from Jim Malters of the Safety Commission on the shortage in ambulance crew members. He recommended an increase for on call time from 50¢ to 75¢ and for time out on calls and training from $6 to $10. The current charges per call are $175.00 base rate plus $3.50 per loaded mile.

Filings have closed for the two positions on the Fulda School Board currently held by Ron Kirchner and Doug Stewart. As of press time only Cheryl Janssen had filed for school board.

The Fulda City Council also had two vacant seats, those of David Thiner and Clayton Isder. Thiner has filed along with Ken Clarke and Jan Wehking.

Perry Loegering, MN DNR, shares his expertise on harvesting native prairie grass seed.

Crewmen from Slayton Concrete worked on leveling the cement to form the sidewalk outside the Fulda Free Press office building.

Operation Lifesaver safety train arrived in SW Minnesota from St. Paul and will travel on to NW Iowa.
